I wonder if you have any problems when you first meet a person whom you don't know before. Here, I'd like to share some of my experience in making friends for all of you. No matter whom you meet, foreigners for example, you may have language barrier with them, not to mention about further relationship. Therefore, getting know some of their languanges is a good tool for breaking the ice among you-all, and foreigners may feel happy if you first greet or talk to them in their languages.
Next thing is getting yourself know more about their cultures, it's even more important than the previous one because what you behave in front of them, will probably affect the impression of you toward them. Getting yourself rid of some "no-no" by not offensing their rules.
Last but no least, is your personality that truly influence further relationship, it's a huge range of things that may be involved in such area, like the way you say, act, think etc. "Right" personalities will help you last the friendships you have for long time. But what is "right" personalities, it really depends on different situations and the persons you meet. That's why we have to prepare well before, or even after everythings, for maintaining a good relationship.
